(ECSIA) – EduQan Certified Systems Integration Engineer
- Level
- Intermediate
- Duration
- 33h 27m
- Lessons
- 94 lessons
What you'll be able to do
- Stand up an integration engine, and explain what each of its five stages does to a message
- Build a channel end to end — source, filter, transform, route, destination — and deploy it
- Accept and reject messages deliberately, and say why a filtered message is not an error
- Transform between HL7 v2, CSV, fixed-width, XML, JSON, X12 and EDIFACT
- Design keys and matching for a feed, and say what happens when two records claim to be the same
- Build a lookup table, and specify what the channel does with a value that has no entry
- Route one message to many destinations, conditionally, and hand off between channels
- Deliver reliably — per-destination retry, backoff, ordering, and what to do when delivery fails
- Emit acknowledgements and rejections that a sender can act on
- Change a live feed safely, using test cases, history and rollback
- Operate an estate — alerts, health, queues, dead letters, replay, users and the audit log
- Secure a channel — transport, credentials, and keeping secrets out of the configuration
- Write the interface specification for a channel you built
Who this is for
Interface developers and integration engineers in any industry. Application support staff who keep feeds running and want to build them. Developers who have inherited an estate nobody documented. Anyone holding ECIF who now wants to build rather than read.
What is assumed
Everything in ECIF. You can read a delimited record, take an HL7 v2 message apart by hand, tell an accept from a reject, and follow one message through an engine log. Lesson 1.1 is the bridge for direct entrants and says plainly what to go back for.
Why the name has no industry in it
Deliberately. A channel that reads a file, validates it, reshapes it and delivers it with retries does not care whether the payload is an admission or a despatch note. Teaching the craft in a clinical wrapper makes it look like a clinical skill and narrows the certificate to one industry for no gain.
So the scenario is the Meridian Group — a distribution business with an ERP, a warehouse, a finance package, a customer portal and three trading partners — and the formats are HL7 v2, X12, EDIFACT, fixed-width, CSV, XML and JSON. A learner from finance, logistics or retail can take ECSIA and never meet a patient.
What it covers
Standing up an engine and building your first channel. The four kinds of source and what each guarantees about ordering, duplicates and loss. Filters, and why a filtered message is not a failure. Transform chains, field mapping and the canonical form. X12 and EDIFACT. Keys, matching and lookup tables. Routing and fan-out. Delivery — retry, backoff, ordering, dead letters and acknowledgements. Scripting, and when not to. Test cases, history and changing a live feed. Then operating an estate: alerts, replay, permissions, secrets, and writing the specification.
Where it sits
ECSIA is the second of three. (ECIF) EduQan Certified Integration Foundations teaches reading; ECSIA teaches building; (ECHIA) EduQan Certified Healthcare Integration Architect is the UK healthcare specialisation and assumes this one completely.
