Foundations: clients, servers and the browser
Section 1 · Module 1 · How the web works · 12 min
The big picture
When you visit a website, your browser (the client) sends an HTTP request to a server, which responds with files — HTML (structure), CSS (style) and JavaScript (behaviour). The browser assembles these into the page you see.
- Front-end — what runs in the browser: HTML, CSS, JavaScript.
- Back-end — what runs on the server: application logic and databases.
Understanding this request–response model is the mental map for everything else in the diploma. A "full-stack" developer works across both.
That is one lesson of 12
Professional Diploma in Software Development & Web Design runs to 12 lessons across 4 sections, and ends in an assessed, dated certificate you can have verified by anyone.
