Preparing for Your Assessor Qualification (TAQA / CAVA)

## Course overview The Level 3 assessor qualifications — CAVA and the TAQA awards — are Ofqual-regulated and assessed largely through a portfolio built from your own real assessment practice. People fail or stall on them for a predictable reason: they enrol without understanding what the units are actually asking for, and spend months producing evidence that does not meet the criteria. This course is the preparation that makes that far less likely. You will learn the principles, vocabulary and evidence expectations *before* you are being assessed against them, so that when you enrol you already know what a valid piece of evidence looks like, why your assessor keeps asking about sufficiency, and what an internal quality assurer is checking when they sample your work. It is also useful if you are not yet certain you want to assess at all. Assessing is a genuine professional discipline with a body of theory behind it, and this course is an honest look at it before you commit fee and time. ## Who this course is for Occupationally competent people considering or preparing for an assessor role — trainers, workplace supervisors, experienced practitioners asked to assess apprentices or NVQ candidates — and those already assessing informally who want the underpinning knowledge. You should have real occupational expertise in a subject area; that is a requirement of the regulated qualification and this course assumes it. ## How the course is taught Five modules, each with three lessons and a graded knowledge check mapped to that module's tasks. Every lesson ends with a **Check your understanding** prompt, and a final assessment covers the whole course. Terminology is used deliberately and consistently with the regulated units, so the language will be familiar rather than new when you enrol. ## Assessment Five module knowledge checks and a final assessment at a 70% pass mark, unlimited attempts, with written feedback on every question. Several questions are open-response and marked against a published rubric — appropriate here, since assessment decisions are judgements and cannot be tested by multiple choice alone. ## Recognition and scope — read this before purchasing **This course is preparation for a regulated qualification. It is not that qualification, and EduQan is not an awarding organisation.** CAVA (Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement) and the TAQA awards are regulated by Ofqual and can only be awarded by recognised awarding organisations — City & Guilds, Pearson, SFJ and Highfield among others. Completing this course: - does **not** make you a qualified assessor, - does **not** entitle you to assess candidates for regulated qualifications, - does **not** exempt you from any unit of the regulated qualification, and - carries **no credit** toward it. To assess for regulated qualifications you must enrol with a recognised centre, build a portfolio from real assessment practice, and be assessed and quality assured. Nothing sold here substitutes for that, and any provider suggesting otherwise should be treated with suspicion. What this course gives you is the knowledge, vocabulary and evidence literacy to go into that process prepared — plus an EduQan certificate of completion, verifiable through our public credential check, which evidences the CPD but not the qualification. ## Progression Enrol with a recognised centre for CAVA or the appropriate TAQA award. Beyond that, assessors commonly progress to internal quality assurance (the IQA awards), or into teaching qualifications such as the Level 3 Award in Education and Training.
